Okay, I’m stealing this from the old MSN blog, but bite me. It’s a good post topic. I’ll see how long I can keep this up.
- VMWare does virtualization on USB. Since Microsoft is upping the ubiquitous factor on virtualization, VMWare is throwing its own spin on that. They’ve introduced a public beta of ACE 2 Enterprise. This puppy now has a feature called Puppy ACE, which allows you to drop a guest OS onto a USB drive and walk that from PC to PC. Hey, all it takes is 3-4GB for you to be able to virtualize most of your working environment. (Source: InfoWorld)
- Jordan resigns from Wikipedia. Yeah, it’s Mr. Ryan Jordan aka Essjay who was recently caught lying about his academic credentials in order to gain prestige and a high-ranking position at Wikipedia’s commercial cousin, Wikia. Wikipedia’s founder Jimmy Wales was backing him, then changed his mind and ‘invited’ him to leave. This is making news for some reason. I don’t know why. He fucking should resign. You lie, you cheat, you get caught, you get ‘invited’ to leave. End of file. And I don’t buy this stuff about it calling Wikipedia’s trustworthiness or longevity into question. It’s a great resource, always has been and will continue to be even with a bad apple or three. (Source: The Register)
- Microsoft says the file format war is over. If you’ve seen Office 2007 and you’ve gotten past freaking out over the ribbon thingie, then you’ve tried it. If you’ve tried it then you’ve dealt with that new default Office file format that’s based on XML for greater compatibility–as long as you’re not using something outside of Microsoft. HA! Well, that problem is over, according to Redmond. MS Office program manager, Brian Jones, says they’ve thrown their weight behind adding OpenXML support. This should make them compatible with any other productivity suite out there. No word on exactly when, tho. (Source: BetaNews)
- Linksys does up small biz VoIP. Cisco’s Linksys has been making VoIP phones for a while now. I even reviewed one of their wireless SIP phones and it was decent. But now, they’re moving to offer small businesses an all-in-one solution. They’ve partnered with Sotto Wireless for a bundle deal: VoIP hardware from Linksys, hosted communication service from Sotto. Pretty good move if they market it right. (Source: Linksys)
