- Vista gamers to go Live. Microsoft announced that it was opening its xBox Live online gaming network to Vista gamers. They actually announced this a while ago when they were detailing their Vista gaming strategy back in the summer of 2006. The eventual goal is that you should be able to play a team deathmatch in Halo 2, for example, and the system wouldn’t care if you were on an xBox console or a Vista PC. Now if they could do it so you could be using a Wii or a PlayStation, too, THAT would be something! (Source: New York Times)
- Cool McAfee malware map. This was a cool idea and definitely one of the more interesting and useful Web 2.0-type innovations in recent months. McAfee just released on online map of the safest and riskiest places to surf on the Web, based on a survey they conducted of 265 top-level domains and their frequency of malware infections. The survey covers everywhere from Rhode Island to Romania. Some of the safest, BTW, are Nordic countries like Finland or Sweden, while the worst is the tiny Pacific island of Tokelau. Darn Tokelau…ians. The actual study is here if you want to take a look. (Source: The Register)
- Microsoft quietly releases Windows Server 2003 SP2. Yep, it’s up and available for download with little fanfare of press hoopla. Definitely worth a look for admins looking to migrate to Vista, however, as SP2 lets the make use of Longhorn’s Windows Deployment Services features without waiting. (Source: BetaNews)
- Apple releases Mac OS X 10.4.9. And while Microsoft is updating Windows Server 2003, Apple is doing what we think will be the last Tiger update. It’s available now and should inlcude fixes for Bluetooth, printing and some native productivity app bugs. (Source: BetaNews)

“Microsoft quietly releases Windows Server 2003 SP2.”
Yep, and it f* up my new 2003 DC real good.. When i installed it, all computers on the domain took up to 5 minutes to login, and there was no error message in the event log. Dcdiag and Netdiag were not reporting anything, so I decided to uninstall it, and guess what? Everthing came back to normal.
Oh well, I’ll guess I’ll wait a few months until I try to install it again.
