« Previous Entries Next Entries »Coming soon: FindMe
Tuesday, March 20th, 2007Unlike some others on this blog that might best be described as carbuncles on the ass of IT, I’ve actually been busy writing tools that admins can use. So I didn’t post yesterday. Sue me.
I’m a few days shy of releasing a new tool called FindMe. Essentially, it’s a Web- and telnet-based Cisco VLAN management […]
FreeConference and the Evil Empire
Tuesday, March 20th, 2007This started crawling around the web late last week. Seems some of the evil empire cell carriers just decided to block a legit conference calling businesses they didn’t like. Did a rant on it here. These guys have got to be stopped.

Today in Tech 3/20
Tuesday, March 20th, 2007Okay, so I didn’t feel like posting anything other than TiT yesterday. At least I posted something. Sasquatch couldn’t get his fattening ass off the couch to save his life.
The Evil Empire outlines its tech plans for the year. Nope, not Microsoft. The real evil empire: Verizon. They gave an exclusive outlining all their broadband […]
$38bn fund data lost in AK
Tuesday, March 20th, 2007There’d better be a whole lot more to this story. The short version is that a tech in Alaska managed to format a hard drive, then the backup hard drive that contained records for Alaska’s oil-funded resident account worth $38bn. Of course the backup tapes were unreadable.
But waitaminute. This data was kept on a single hard […]

Monday, March 19th, 2007CeBit weirdness: 3D monitors. Will this 3D thing never end? Now cooling maker, Zalman is introing a set of 19- and 22-inch 3D-capable flat displays. You can switch between 3D and 2D modes, but you’ll need the goofy glasses to see 3D. Arg. (Source: Engadget)
More CeBit weirdness: Thought-controlled interface. Remember Clint firing missiles by thinking […]
CompUSA closing stores, Oliver’s dilemma
Saturday, March 17th, 2007Just got a call from our erstwhile friend Oliver. He was standing in a CompUSA near Edison, NJ, and sounded like a Supermarket Spree contestant. Apparently CompUSA is closing a bunch of stores, and those stores are selling everything except the walls at steep discounts. Note: This includes all Apple hardware.
The 15″ MacBook Pro that […]
DISCUSSION: What Happens To Your Data When You Die?
Friday, March 16th, 2007Sasquatch brought this up during a whiskey-inspired side discussion at the editorial retreat. Got me thinking because…well, I’ve never thought about it. What DOES happen to your data when you die?
I actually found a few articles & posts on the subject:
Slashdot May 03, 2004
Chronoscape May 16, 2004
How To Web June 1, 2005
Lifehacker Sept 26, 2006
Turns […]
Today in Tech; 3/15
Thursday, March 15th, 2007We’re back from InfoWorld’s annual editorial retreat–well, I am. Sasquatch had to go to Baltimore and do geek things in someone’s basement. Lessons learned: If you repeatedly put salt & pepper and/or tabasco sauce in Sasquatch’s drinks when he’s not looking he’s liable to get cranky. Who knew?
CeBit 2007 has lengthy landmark lane. Check out […]
REVIEW: Gateway ‘Workstation Notebook’ M685-E
Wednesday, March 14th, 2007Another link back to a new SMB IT review on the Gateway M685-E. I really like Gateway’s M255-E as a business traveling workhorse. That’s a 15-inch Core 2 Duo jobbie with a great price. The M685-E is a 17-inch number with a great look and loads of hardware muscle, but with a feature set and […]

Wednesday, March 14th, 2007Vista gamers to go Live. Microsoft announced that it was opening its xBox Live online gaming network to Vista gamers. They actually announced this a while ago when they were detailing their Vista gaming strategy back in the summer of 2006. The eventual goal is that you should be able to play a team deathmatch […]
