- Halo 3 coming soon. Microsoft’s announced the date: May 16. Coming for the xBox 360 first and then us poor PC players can start looking for it later this year. (Source: GamePro)
- Young scientists at NASA open-sourcing space program. This is kinda cool. Seems there’s a small clique of scientists looking to get the public involved in software design for the space program via a project called CosmosCode. An open project with design meetings being held in Second Life. (Source: Wired)
- Zune details leaked? Seems the guys over at Zune Scene (???) were waxing rhapsodic on what the next-gen Zune might look like, then they talked to an MS employee and the poor shmuck ‘unwittingly’ spilled all the beans. Rumor only, however. (Source: Engadget)
- Grisoft does free rootkit detector. These are the guys who (a) live right near me and (b) did the AVG free anti-virus tools which is one of my faves for loaner notebooks. Now they’ve got a new freebie, a rootkit detector and remover for Windows. You can get the freebie off their Web site, comes with a 30-day free commercial license. After that, it’s free for home users only. This is great, but be sure to test this a bit. AVG put it through 6 months of open beta testing, so it’s fairly solid, but rootkits dig deep, and messing with Windows at that level is always tricky–I’d be saying that whether or not this thing was free.
